Saint to fight for WBA title on May 27th!

George ‘The Saint’ Groves will fight former champion Fedor Chudinov for the Super WBA Super-middleweight World title on May 27th at Sheffield United's football stadium Bramall Lane, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

“It’s great to be back fighting on Sky Sports Box Office,” said Groves.

“I’m excited to be challenging for the World title on May 27 at Bramall Lane. Last year was a good year for me. I feel that the work I’ve been doing behind the scenes with Shane has really started to pay off, and I’m in a great position to capture the WBA title and push on from there."

An excellent 2016 saw the Saint register four straight wins after linking up with new trainer Shane McGuigan and Groves credits McGuigan with helping him get to a place where he feels ready to become a world champion.

"I knew I needed a change and I took to Shane McGuigan straight after meeting him", said Groves.

"I knew it was the right thing for me. We had a great year last year and things in the gym are going great.

"I'm improving and I'm in a good place. I've learned from my mistakes and now I'm in the best possible position to win a world title."

Groves will face former WBA title holder Fedor Chudinov, who has only lost once as a professional to date.

"Chudinov has had a bit of a stop-start career," Groves added.

"Look at his record and he's only had 15 fights but he has obviously been a world champion in that time and we saw his brother come over here to fight Chris Eubank Jr, so we know he is a good, technical, strong, typical Russian fighter."

“He is a good fighter. He proved that against Felix Sturm, but I honestly believe that I will have too much for him. It has always been my dream to become World Champion, and now it’s my time and nothing will stand in my way.”

The fight will take place on the Kell Brook v Errol Spence Jr card and tickets can be purchased HERE
