George ‘The Saint’ Groves is set to return to action at the Copper Box Arena in London on January 30th next year.
After dropping a split decision to WBC world super-middleweight champion Badou Jack last time out, The Saint has split from trainer Paddy Fitzpatrick and will begin a fresh assault on a fourth World title shot at the top of a stacked Matchroom Boxing and Team Sauerland card.
Groves will take on Italian Andrea Di Luisa (18-3-KO14). Di Luisa stopped Gabor Zsalek in the second round of his most recent fight. His three losses have all come in good company - twice in European title challenges, against Mouhamed Ali Ndiaye in November 2011 and then to former Groves victim Christopher Rebrasse a year later. More recently he was halted by former world champion Lucian Bute, who just lost his bid to regain the IBF crown from Groves' old foe James DeGale.
“It’s great to be back,’’ said Groves.
"I’m looking forward to boxing in London again. This is a chance for me start the New Year on the front foot.
"I want to get as many fights as possible and start building momentum as I look to work my way back into World title contention.
"I am not bitter about the last one. I lost a split decision out in Las Vegas, so all I want to do is get back in the ring and get back to winning ways.
"The fact that I have been in those big fights, I hope my name is still relevant and there are plenty of fighters in my weight who are doing well and making names for themselves as well."
